Three Thoughts

Over this past weekend, there have been three big thoughts resting on my mind. So, I’ll let them out of my mind, so they can stop resting there (they’re getting rather heavy).

First, David Crowder is awesome. Well, not so much him, but a combination of his hair and what God is doing through him. And I’m glad that he points this out often. I’m trying to do this more. Because it’s really not me. So if you’re one of the people who has said “thank you” to me in the past week, take it back. It’s not me whom you need to thank, but thank God, because he made me. Anything good that I do is because of God… I have no good in me on my own.

Second, I have a strange perspective. When living at school, I’m 20 minutes away from my parents. Living at home, I’m 15 feet away from my parents. For a few folks at Clemson, this holds true for them too. However, this is the point I really want to get to.

I am called by God to be in mission. Every Christian is, and with the Great Commission as our “theme verse” in so many churches, it’s hard for us to ignore it. I spent this summer away from home. I missed Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. This Christmas break, I’ll spend two of my 3.5 weeks off traveling to help other people. Although I see my family often, even if I didn’t, they would rather me be in New Orleans and the Bahamas instead of sitting around the house with them. I’ll have eternity to chat with them. To end this thought, I don’t believe God would want me (or anyone really) to spend 3.5 weeks with folks I’ve spent my entire life with instead of taking off for 2 weeks to help folks who are truly in need. So from the day after Boxing Day to the tenth of January, you’ll find me in two different gutters, pouring my heart out… and you’re more than welcome to join me.

Thirdly, smile. I am very guilty of this. I don’t smile enough. But it’s more than just smiling. I like tree frogs. They’re colorful, they’ve got big eyes, and more than anything, they’re just plain cool. They make me smile. I like dogs. They chase their tails and get confused when they can’t catch it. They make me smile. I like trees. Some of them look rather funny, and some have funky looking leafs. They make me smile.

And the best part of all? God made all three of these things. Do you know why? To make us smile.

Take a look around you… and find joy, happiness, and more in the gifts God has given to you and me. Be thankful for the awesome cool stuff that God has surrounded us with, and maybe even begin to see God in the midst of it all.

Those are my three thoughts. They’re not worth very much. But they’re me. And for that I thank God…

Praise to our Father,
chris
